The Wooden Gem

So, What Is the Main Attraction Of Unique Wooden Gifts?

For me, wooden gifts appeal is down to the natural form and physique of every piece of wood used. Providing ‘one-off’ creations every time! A wooden product almost provides a feeling of warmth and homeliness, I guess. The presence of a natural product in its raw state is something of real beauty for me.

Renewable Material

Wood is known to be one of the most naturally renewable energy sources, which means it will have less of an impact on the environment compared to other materials. According to the British Woodworking Federation over 90 percent of the wood, we use in the UK is from forests in Europe, which are growing by 661,000 hectares each year. This shows that it’s a readily available resource that we’re not going to run out of anytime soon.

Wood Can Be Recycled Or Maintained To Stay Looking Ship Shape!

With hardwood to last a lifetime, it’s the ideal material for upcycling. Using reclaimed timber and wood products help to keep the carbon footprint low, limiting the use of freshly-milled timber. Helping to preserve our natural timber resources for future use. Reusing salvaged wood also helps to reduce materials being sent to landfills or being burned, both of which pollute the environment.

It Absorbs Carbon Dioxide

Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, which lowers the overall carbon footprint of wood. As a ‘carbon store’, once wood absorbs CO2, it is stored there and remains out of the atmosphere. Wood is the only truly sustainable material and for every cubic metre of wood used in projects such as construction, approximately one tonne of carbon dioxide is saved. Choosing wood for making or purchasing goods really can make a world of difference!

Why Choose Unique Wooden Gifts v’s Alternative Materials

To produce materials such as concrete, plastic, or aluminium, a lot more energy from fossil fuels are required. Even recycling plastic is not as environmentally friendly as some people may think. When you are recycling plastic you use a large amount of energy and when you consider that each plastic product cannot naturally biodegrade and will exist on our planet forever.. literally

Wood Waste Is 100 Percent Biodegradable

There is very little waste when handcrafting any of our handmade wooden products and gifts. When working with hardwood, any residual chippings can be burned as an energy source or used as sawdust for woodworking aesthetics. I once read a statement that ‘There is no waste in timber production. Really? well, here is an example, offcuts and by-products from woodworking projects such as furniture-making can be used to create chipboard and generate renewable heat and energy.’ The waste that is produced is 100 percent biodegradable, meaning that it eventually decomposes and breaks down back into the earth, making it better for the environment.

Arctic Maple Products

Maple is an excellent choice when it comes to wooden cutting boards. Hardwood, such as Arctic maple provides an excellent cutting surface that wears extremely well against daily chopping. Also, due to hard maple wood being fine and straight-grained, any unwanted bacteria are trapped within the wood and killed off as the board dries.

Black Walnut Products

Walnut wood is always a clever choice for kitchen goods and food preparation boards. Its dark colour and stunning grain are incredibly attractive and proves popular for many wooden kitchen items. Although, Walnut is slightly softer than maple, it will hold up very well over time. Good for both chopping board durability and knife maintenance.
