The Wooden Gem has allowed me to approach my love for all things woodcraft. Fully focused on producing unique handmade wooden products. Whilst showcasing original designs and finishes. These unique handmade wooden gifts are something I feel incredibly proud of.

So, Where Did It All Start?

Since a young girl, I have had a passion for furniture. I remember, when very small, admiring my grandfather’s wooden furniture. With its burred walnut veneer and exceptional design. This furniture captivated my attention upon every visit. Looking closely enough I could depict lions’ faces within the burrs of the walnut and remember feeling such joy from its sheer natural beauty.

A New Chapter In Handmade Wooden Products

Driven by a passion for earthly and oriental furniture and a strong love of handmade wooden products, I knew The Wooden Gem was my next venture. With two beautiful boys at home, growing before my eyes, I put myself to work. Slowly collecting tools and planning my business. For this was the path I knew I had to pursue. Time would pass quickly, as it does with two crazy boys running about. So, I decided to take the long route. Burrowing money away, into the business would allow me to launch with some hope of success. Fully aware of how competitive the handmade wooden gifts market is and how expensive wood can be, as my material of choice. I knew I needed to work smart to ensure my road to success.

As of February 2021, I now have an officially established company – The Wooden Gem Limited. Now it’s time to put the pedal to the metal and start growing the business. Design and making are in full flow and with the creative ideas in play, there are sure to be exciting times ahead. The Wooden Gem is sure to evolve into a well-respected artisan business. Offering unique handmade wooden gifts. Focused on making unusual wooden products that can ensure timeless yet practical designs, whilst showcasing the exquisite workmanship and durability that our customers deserve.

What Is The Premise Of The Wooden Gem?

A strong understanding of the forestry and timber industries, along with knowledge of the material I choose to work with, is crucial to my plans for The Wooden Gem. An ethical way of working and the production of quality, life-long products is the main premise of my business!

So, how can one warrant making handmade wooden products, fully conscious of their impact on the environment? This has been an important one for me. Since deciding on making woodwork my career path I knew choices would have to be made to rebalance what I would be sacrificing for my happiness in woodworking full time. I feel the best way for me to feel comfortable in what I am doing is to ‘give back’ in some way. So, for every order made, The Wooden Gem will be purchasing and planting a tree. The Woodland Trust will be my go-to, to ensure The Wooden Gem customers are at ease with purchasing our handmade wooden gifts for years to come.
